GMC Service Schedule: Key Milestones That Keep Your Vehicle Strong

Regular GMC service helps keep your vehicle running smoothly, whether you're commuting through Provo or climbing into the Wasatch Mountains. Oil changes, tire rotations, filter replacements, and other scheduled maintenance all play a role in preventing unnecessary wear. At Provo GMC Cadillac, we can help you stay current with the maintenance your vehicle needs.

Every 7,500 Miles: Oil Changes and Tire Rotations

GMC recommends oil and filter changes approximately every 7,500 miles or when your vehicle's Oil Life System indicates service is needed. Even if you drive relatively few miles, engine oil should generally be changed at least once a year.

Tire rotations are also recommended every 7,500 miles. Moving tires between positions helps distribute wear more evenly, particularly on vehicles that frequently carry passengers, haul equipment, or navigate winding mountain roads.

These visits are also an opportunity to inspect your brakes, tires, fluid levels, and other important GMC parts.

Around 15,000 Miles: Check the Engine Air Filter

The engine air filter prevents dust, dirt, and other airborne particles from entering your engine. GMC's general maintenance guidance suggests replacement around 12,000 to 15,000 miles, although the appropriate interval depends on your vehicle and driving conditions.

Drivers who regularly encounter dusty roads or construction areas may need more frequent replacements. Our technicians can inspect the filter during routine service visits and determine whether it's ready for replacement.

Around 25,000 Miles: Replace the Cabin Air Filter

Your cabin air filter helps keep dust, pollen, and other airborne contaminants out of the passenger compartment. GMC generally recommends inspecting and replacing it around 22,500 to 24,000 miles or approximately every two years.

For a new GMC model that regularly travels through Utah's changing seasons, keeping this filter fresh helps maintain airflow through the heating and air-conditioning system.

Around 100,000 Miles: Spark Plugs and Major Inspections

Most GMC gasoline engines use spark plugs designed to last approximately 100,000 miles. Replacing them at the recommended interval helps maintain reliable ignition, smooth operation, and consistent engine performance.

This is also a good time to inspect the differential, transfer case on equipped vehicles, and other drivetrain components. Transmission fluid service may be required earlier, particularly for vehicles used for frequent towing or other demanding driving.

Don't Forget Time-Based Maintenance

Mileage isn't the only factor in vehicle maintenance. Brake fluid, engine coolant, and other fluids can require replacement based on age, even when a vehicle hasn't accumulated many miles.

For example, some GMC maintenance schedules specify engine coolant replacement at 150,000 miles or five years, whichever comes first. The exact requirements vary by model, engine, and model year, so your owner's manual should determine when these services are due.
